Squamous Cell Carcinoma Arising in Cystic Teratoma of the Ovary-Clinicopathologic Analysis of the 8 Cases-

Abstract
Clinical and pathologic features of eight patients with squamous cell carcinoma arising in mature cystic teratoma of the ovary were analyzed. Squamous cell carcinoma was demonstrated in 2.0% of our cases of 398 mature cystic teratoma. Clinical
staging
is single most important prognostic factor in patient survival. In our study, the squamous cell carcinoma was considered to have originated from direct transition from the ordinary epidermis of the teratomatous skin tissue. On the other hand,
squamous
cell carcinoma also originated from the columnar epithelium or metaplastic squamous epithelium.
Clinically in the menopause women, squamous cell carcinoma arising in benign cystic teratoma of the ovary is suspicious to have large sized cystic teratoma (more than 15cm above) with rupture or adhesion to adjacent tissues.
